Psst, See "The Secret Garden"

August 07, 2009

Immerse the kids in some theater with a trip to South Coast Rep to see the new musical, The Secret Garden.

In it, Mary and her new friend find the key to an irresistible secret garden, they enter and magical things happen.

The performance follows the classic novel that was written especially for young actors and features SCR’s Summer Players actors, who are chosen through audition after completing at least one year of
training.

I got a press preview of the show and found it a delight. It was a very charming, intimate performance with only about 100 seats total. The young actors were a joy to watch, the classic story was magical and engaging and I really enjoyed the simplicity of the stage and imagination prompted by a streamlined set. My daughter adored the show and was beaming at various parts, even asking to hop on my lap so she didn’t miss a moment.

The play is really a great chance to introduce kids to the stage and possibly peak their interest in performance.

Secret Garden dates are limited to 8 performances. Tickets are just $10 and may be purchased through the SCR Box Office at (714) 708-5555 or online at http://www.scr.org.

Well done, young actors!
