The kids are back in school, which means flu’s hitting and OC moms are getting notes that our kids “may” have been exposed to H1N1. Great. NOT!
Skip the hype and get the flu facts here. PLM talks Swine Flu and influenza with a local CHOC doc. See our video interview and breathe easier knowing the 411 this flu season. Plus tune in for a few extra tips for staying winter-healthy.
My video chat with Irvine pediatrician, Dr. Kathryn Khorashadi, who tells us Swine signs, symptoms and next steps. Learn what to do if you suspect your kids may have come in contact with H1N1 and how to identify if it’s just a regular old cold or flu.
You can do a fellow OC mom a favor too and email this story (via the link below) to share the scoop, as we’re all in this together this season.
Care to comment on the story/video? Please do so below, as PLM now has full comment capability and I’d love to know your thoughts, tips and tricks to staying Swine-free. And chime in on the Swine vaccine—are you Swine in or out when it becomes available?
hi debbie, thanks for posting about this. i took my son to the walk-in yesterday because of his high fever (not usual for him), cough and disorientation/hallucinations! i was reassured by the doc about the risks of h1n1 and whew! not so freaked now
Hey Lisa, thanks for the comment. Hope it helps moms calm the crazy a little. I know my mind can go wild places w/o all the facts. Your poor little guy; hope he is doing better. I would have freaked with those symptoms too.
Ironically, my guy just tested positive over the weekend. He had 103.5, fever went up and down and had a cough. I didn’t mess around, took him to urgent care asap on Sunday and started Tamiflu. (gotta start Tamiflu in 24-48 hrs of symptoms!)
If it helps, I got peace of mind of from taking him in instead of guessing.
So many kids have Swine. It seems mild, though young kids and kids with asthma etc need to be extra careful with respiratory complications.
